Stormy Summer
When Summer Miller is rudely awoken from the best hot 'n' heavy dream she has had in a long time, her day gets progressively worse... until she prangs the car belonging to one of the office's hottest blokes. One thing leads to another and she soon finds herself dating a man who isn't quite what he seems. When her imagination goes overboard and she thinks he might actually be a 'she', Summer ends up running away to Portugal – straight into the arms of a handsome American stranger...
What is this book’s genre? Is this the genre you usually write in? Are there any genre’s you haven’t written
that you’d like to try?
It’s a typical Chick Lit novel, which I do write along with YA. I’d LOVE to try a few other genres too, like mystery or horror!
What inspired you to write this book?
It was an article I read back in my 20s about
one of my favourite authors at the time (Jenny Colgan). She gave me the push I
needed to actually try and write a book. As for the actual inspiration, maybe
it was where I was working at the time ;)
How did you
pick its title? Did it come first or did
you have to write the story first?
It actually had a different title back then: Molly. But when I got it out again this year to see if it was worth publishing I decided Molly didn’t cut it so, with the help of my close friends, we came up with Stormy Summer.

How did you
create your characters? Did you use any
real life people in their making?
The characters are completely out of my imagination, although one or two were ‘inspired’ by people in my life at the time!

Who is your favorite character of this book
and why?
Summer and Gwen - I adore their chemistry. They’re the perfect best friends.

This bit was fun to write…
On Tuesday evening I popped up to see Gwen to apologise for being a bit of a bitch, but she wasn’t there. She must have been out with Hugh, so instead I decided to go and see my mum. After all, I hadn’t seen her for at least a month.
'Hello? Who is it?' fluttered the voice on the other side of the door.
'Mum, it’s me. Summer,' I answered, wishing she would stop trying to sound so sexy.
She opened the door, stepped quickly outside and pulled the door close behind her. 'Honeybun, sweetie! How are you? What a lovely surprise. A little unexpected, though,' she whispered as she gave me a hug and two air kisses.
'Hi, Mum. I’m fine,' I said, trying to get past her into her little apartment. She seemed to pull me back and was obviously delaying our entry. I figured she must have another bloke in there.
'So who is it this time, Mum?'
She reddened a little and put her head down. 'No-one you know, sweetheart.'
Which meant it was someone I knew.
I pushed past her and opened the door, only to be greeted by one of the most unpleasant and horrendous sights of my entire life. All twenty-four years of it.
My boss, Jack Willoughby, was crouched over—bollock naked—on all fours on top of the coffee table. He was completely oblivious to the fact that my mother had opened the front door and he looked as though he was waiting to be spanked. Suddenly, in a John Wayne-type accent, he yelled out , 'Ooh, spank me, darlin’, spank me,' but as he turned, he finally realised that he and my lovely mother were not alone. He unceremoniously fell off the table and grabbed a cushion to hide his credentials; incidentally, a matchstick would probably have done the job.
I gasped and heaved, feeling totally nauseous all of a sudden. This was not a pretty sight. I quickly shot out of the front door.

hardest part of this book to write? Can you share an excerpt from that part?
Actually because I wrote it about fifteen years ago, I can’t really remember to be honest! It was all fun really :)

Born in England and raised in Portugal,
Suzy lives with her childhood sweetheart Michael, two neurotic dogs and several
cats – one who thinks she's a princess.
Shortly after completing her studies, Suzy worked as a trainee journalist for a local English newspaper. Her love of writing developed and a few years later she took the job of assistant editor for the region's largest English language publisher before becoming editor of a monthly lifestyle magazine. Early in 2010 however, Suzy became a full time author.
