Review: A LONG TIME COMING by Heather Van Fleet *giveaway*

Blurb:

Abigail Orson has a problem. A love problem to be precise; and she has absolutely no idea how to go about fixing it.

For years now, she has been chasing her best friend’s brother—demanding things from him that he’s never wanted to give. For one? A real relationship that surpasses well beyond that dreaded ‘just friends’ zone. You see, David Anderson is her idea of perfection to a T. The one and only guy who has ever had the ability to make her heart beat faster; make her toes curl with the simple blink of his long, girly lashes. But David is also a recovering amputee, and the only thing he really wants from Abigail is to be left alone. Abigail is a fighter though, and losing the one guy who has ruined her for every other is no longer an option.

A guy with one leg who has lost his motivation to live—to love—to actually be a man. David believes he’s a waste of space. If only the beautiful girl of his unattainable dreams would get that through her perfect, blonde, stubborn head! He’s not the right guy for Abigail. He’ll never be worthy of what she deserves. However, staying away is almost impossible, especially when he’s just as in love with her as she is with him. But Abigail has a life ahead of her, one that’s definitely livable without a nineteen–year–old gimp like him holding her down. What makes her want to stick around is beyond questionable to David’s mind.

Choices will be made. Lines will be drawn. And together, they will face challenges that nobody saw coming. David and Abigail may have had almost fourteen years to fall in love, but the thing is, timing and love have never exactly worked in their favor.

It has been years in the making, and definitely A Long Time Coming
for David and Abigail. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up before they
actually have the chance to get it right…

My Review:

I can say that this is now my favorite book.

I adore Heather's writing, I could read it all the time. This book took me 7 hours flat to read,  I didn't want to put it down. I read it while eating. Ha.

This book has the perfect amount of everything between David and Abigail. They are both so stubborn that they fight everything.  As much emotion as I felt during this book, it's just really hard to write everything.   I fan-girled, cried, screamed and screeched through out this book.

I love how Heather incorporated characters from the first book in this series, which I loved as well! But I think Ms. Van Fleet out did herself with this book. I have butterflies and I'm all giddy from reading.   I really can't express enough, my love for this book.

There are twists and turns that I didn't expect, which made me fall in love with it even more! Gahh! Everyone seriously needs to read this book and own a copy. This was seriously worth the wait. I can say that my life is now complete. Thank you for making me an even bigger hopeless romantic . Perfect Christmas for any reader of any age on your list.

Thank you for this phenomenal book, Heather, definitely worth 5 leaves!! And a huge hug!! :)

xx Taylor

Review: Wolf at the Door by Sofia Grey

Wolf at the Door
Snowdonia Wolves # 1

by

Sofia Grey

Love can heal all wounds...

Pop star Lillian Hart is determined never to trust another man. She has no idea that the wolf at her door is anything other than a wounded dog, much less the Alpha of the Snowdonia Wolf pack. There's something about the wild creature that pulls at her. Then a man with her wolf's eyes starts to invade her dreams, and reality and fantasy merge in a way that has her hoping, against all odds, for dreams to come true.

Lillian may have sworn off men, but Jake's not just any man, he's a shifter, and he's about to shift Lillian's world to make room for him. He vows to claim her as his Mate, and when Jake makes a vow, he keeps it. But Lillian wants to take it slow and Jake is not about to waste any time.

In this battle of wills, both discover giving in and trusting their hearts can heal even the deepest of hurts.

My Review:

When I was first asked to read and review this book, I was game because it was a paranormal. Then I saw the cover, realized it would be a wolf book and I got super excited. I love paranormal/shifter wolves and romance. :)

It was later in the evening when I decided to start it to see how far I could get. Well by 1 a.m., I could barely keep my eyes open but was so torn because I seriously could not put this book down.

Congrats to you Sofia Grey, for writing a fantastic shifter story !!!!!

I love love loved it :) At 87 pages, it was the perfect length for me to read at one time but then at the same time it just wasn't long enough either because I didn't want the story to end.

I have to say I fell in love with Wolfie before the end of Chapter 1 :) His protectiveness was immediate for who he recognized to be his Mate and was impressed that he had respect enough to give her a little time to get used to him before he scared the crap out of her. And how cool to have the ability to invade someone's dreams? That was a trait I hadn't read in any books before so I really enjoyed that. I won't give you any more details though so you can experience it for yourself.

This is an erotic novella and the electricity between Wolfie/Jake and Lillian was instantaneous, powerful and simply hot !! I whole-heartedly believe there is such a thing as love at first sight, even though Lillian definitely fights it. She was a scarred popstar running away from a bad relationship to hide in the Snowdonia Mountains at Lupus Cottage to heal. With the simple gesture of taking in and caring for an animal she thought she'd hit with her car, she started a chain reaction that would end up having a profound healing effect on both of their lives.

I want to read this again....and again.....and can you please, pretty please... hurry with A Handful of Wolf (Snowdonia Wolves #2) :)

Absolutely, without a doubt 5 leaves !!! Kudos Ms. Grey !!!

Review: You and Tequila by Crystal Donahue

You and Tequila

by

Crystal Donahue

Blurb

One tequila, two tequila, three tequila… Score!

Cassel Bailey's life hasn't exactly turned out how she planned. Between the tragic death of her parents, a brother that practically despises her, and working her way through nursing school alone, she's learned to stay guarded
, relying only on herself and her friends for love and support. Over time they’ve become her surrogate family. So when one drunken night at the bar lands her in bed with her close friend, Will Tanner, it threatens to change their otherwise platonic relationship forever. Life as she knows it suddenly begins spinning out of control as she struggles to understand her conflicted emotions.
Guided by her authoritative best friend, Tina, and her quirky next-door neighbor, Rita, Cassel must decide between fighting to keep her friendship with Will alive, or going with Plan B and risking it all for something more.

Just when she thinks she knows what she wants, Cassel is bullied into caring for a patient that, unbeknownst to her, played an important role in her sad past. The stunning secret this person reveals about her former lover, Dane, threatens to open up previously healed wounds and leads Cassel to question not only the career she loves, but where
her heart truly lies. Everything she thought she knew about life, love, and promises is shattered like an empty bottle hitting the floor.

One thing is for certain, when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade... when life gives you limes, you grab some salt and a bottle of tequila and learn to take it one shot at a time.

My Review:

You and Tequila...what a good book and a catchy title! This was yet another one I had to read straight through.

I simply adored the characters as Ms. Donahue made them very 'real'. The situation that Cass finds herself in with her best guy friend of all people, is a scenario that i'm sure alot of women could possibly relate to if they've ever had a really good guy friend. What would happen if you just went one step too far?

I liked Cassel right from the start trying not to feel sorry for this woman who last her parents and had a brother who hated her. She'd learned to take care of herself and handle things regardless of the situation. That is until too much tequila lands her in her best friend's bed.

Filled with a mix of sad moments, definite relationship chemistry and some funny moments makes this book an easy to recommend enjoyable read!

Worthy of my 4 leaves !!

Review: When It's Least Expected by Heather Van Fleet

When It’s Least Expected
By
Heather Van Fleet

When It's Least Expected wasn't at all what I expected but it is what the title says, 'when it's least expected', you read a book that throws you completely! I didn't used to be a YA reader but I am truly and thoroughly hooked. As an author, i know the feeling of that nail-biting pulling-your-hair-out having to wait for a review , not knowing if the reader will like it but our author, Heather Van Fleet shouldn't ever have to worry about this one again.

What a great story and I loved Harley !!! I also truly believe that surfer boy Mason is her perfect match! ( my daughter would seriously be crushing on him :) The characters in When It's Least Expected were definitely well developed with depth, personal character and conflict. This story touched on alot of issues, a steady mix of that high school love/hate drama and actually what teenagers go through on a daily basis in their lives. Cause let me tell you, having a high schooler myself, lord knows I know drama. Ms. Van Fleet knocked this one out of the park for sure !

I hesitate to say too much because I want other readers to experience and fall in love with the book themselves instead of getting all the good stuff here but I will say that this story is now taking top ranks in my favorite YA books and i really hope that book 2 doesn't take too long.....

Heather, you ROCK !!! (oh and I LOVE the cover :))

Highly deserving of my 5 leaves !!

Review: Unraveled by S.X. Bradley

Unraveled

by

S.X. Bradley

I was given this book in return for an honest review...

I have to say that I usually don't read murder mysteries but the blurb had me wanting to find out more. I 've found myself liking YA stories more everyday. I really loved Autumn in this story. She's a super smart girl with not many friends but she definitely loves the people close to her. I think it's extremely cool for a 16 year old to be so much into forensics. I always wanted to do that myself and while i'm pretty sure if I found my older sister murdered, i'd very possibly fall apart.

I definitely give Autumn kudos for refocusing herself into finding her sister's killer even while dealing with so much grief. I felt her pain, especially when she was being considered a suspect. Such a realistic scenario but one i wouldn't wish upon anyone, especially a teenager.

S.X. Bradley did a fantastic job creating a suspenseful crime detail-filled mystery with romance mixed in, one that kept me on my toes until the very end. An emotional and intruiging read that I highly recommend to any YA suspense reader ! Looking forward to reading more from this author :)

Review: Soul Mates: Bewitched by Elizabeth A. Lance

Soul Mates: Bewitched

by

Elizabeth A. Lance

I swear I can't say enough about this series. When the first book came out, Soul Mates: Scent, I absolutely loved it. See my review here. I didn't want that book to end so I hoped for a second and when this one appeared, I jumped at the chance to read it. This is my new favorite YA series !!!
Ms. Lance has an unbelievable talent for creating strong dynamic characters and I had a blast following the journey of Antony and the lovely spitfire Jillian. The attraction between these two was evident from the first time they saw each other along with Tony's need to protect. I love all the new power he is able to harness along with handling his Dream visions, his meditation visits with Anca and finding out what really happened with his father.
It was also great to see a huge role for Max in this book as well. He was definitely my favorite in the first book and I love seeing how his life continues with his wife Anna and their growing family. It is amazing the depth at which he is involved in not just fighting the Unseelie with Tony and the Guardians but also being able to handle his role as Prince of Light and Illusion and all that it entails.
They all definitely found themselves in one or two sticky situations and the mystery and intrigue kept me hooked til the very end!
I'll say it again...this is my favorite YA paranormal series !! I'm desperately hoping it doesn't end here either. Keeping my fingers crossed that Elizabeth continues to weave this wonderful tale of the Fae and shapeshifters :)
Again, I willingly recommend this book to all paranormal romance loves, YA or not.
I definitely give this book my 5 leaves!!

Both books available now at Amazon !!

Review: The Ice Bridge by Kathryn

The Ice Bridge
by
Kathryn Meyer Griffith

This was an interwoven story of 3 generations of women and their love for Mackinac Island.

I adored the eccentric neighbor, Hannah as she played the role of a grandma of sorts and took up the friendship basically where she and Charlotte had left off from summers gone by.

Then there was Aunt Bess, a strong woman who took her niece Charlotte in no questions asked but had her own unique love tragedies throughout the book which she overcame with the help of her loved ones.

I felt bad for the main character Charlotte and the reasons she went to the Island initially. Being jilted at the alter is nobody’s idea of fun especially when it’s her groom and Charlotte’s best friend.    She needed some solitude and the comfort of her aunt and friend in the place that always felt like home to her.

I also like the way the author incorporated island ghost stories told by the residents, making me wonder if the stories may just be true.   Charlotte had been suggested to write a book including those stories while on the island by police officer Mac Berman, someone she never expected to meet but who would end up playing a crucial role in all three women’s lives.

I was drawn by the intrigue and focus on the mystery of the Ice Bridge as well.  Once spectacle I have yet to see myself but all through this book it was definitely an eerie presence that made me think twice about taking myself to in the dead of winter, no pun intended.  No doubt there was a strong pull that kept me riveted to the pages til the early morning hours waiting to see what would happen next.

I’ll admit that I mostly read romance but I was eager to read this because of an extreme love I have for Mackinac Island.  Ms. Griffith definitely didn’t disappoint in making me feel like I was right back on Main Street looking for the tasty ice cream cones and homemade peanut butter fudge I love so much.  She has a unique way of making the people and places come to life and stayed true to the Island traditions.

The author did a great job of making this story a believable reality and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a mystery of murder and ghost stories blended with a few mild romances.

4 leaves from me !!

Review: Soul Mates: Scent by Elizabeth A. Lance

Soul Mates: Scent

by

Elizabeth A. Lance

WOW!!! I seriously love it when a book basically leaves me speechless after the very last line.

What a great book !!! I was sad to see it end. I only just recently started reading paranormal/shifter stories but if there are more out there like this one, I'm hooked :) Please also tell me there might be another coming out soon in this series????

Soul Mates: Scent was a very well written book about a beautiful young feline shifter(heroine Anna Lissa Felidae) searching out her soul mate(our hero, 17 yr old Max Fergus). However, he is not so sure about all he's being told at first. What he does know is he is unbeleivably attracted to her, not just becuase of how she looks but he feels it down deep. They have an undeniable connection and a destiny that awaits them even though they are being hunted.

Our author, Elizabeth A. Lance did a wonderful job portraying all of her characters feelings in such a way I could almost experience them myself. I was also very captivated by and felt almost if I'd been transported to the unique worlds she created for the Fae, the shifters and of course the humans. She'd intertwined all the family/friends to have an important part in the growth of the story as well.

Full of mystery and intrigue at every turn and young love abound, this Y/A Paranormal Romance is absolutely one I would recommend at the drop of a hat. I may even read it again myself :)

Kudos to you Ms. Lance !!! You have my 5 leaves !!!

Review: Yesterday's Tomorrow by Ceri Hebert

Yesterday's Tomorrow

by Ceri Hebert

Other than being speechless with a wide smile, I can only muster one word to start.....

            WOW!

This single sort story would absolutely rate at the top of my “read and loved” list. I first must clarify that I am personally very happy where I am in my own life but as a true diehard romance fan, stop and think for just a moment. Can you even imagine what kind of opportunity it would be to be in your 40's and get a “do-over”? In Lila's case, it was basically out of her control but a total godsend. Okay I admit, if I woke up one morning in my 23-year-old body, I might likely blow a gasket. However, it was the perfect opportunity for Lila to fix the mundane life she had ultimately settled for. Stability, success, companionship, but love? Happiness?

The author did an amazing job “flipping” the main character into her past. She totally had me hooked. It was very well written and flowed smoothly. It tested Lila's mind to have to remember what she did and who she knew 21 years ago but I applaud Lila for having the nerve to take a chance. The connection she first had with Colin was believable enough I was sure that would be her future but then there's Aaron. The best friend. Who would ever suspect the best friend?  The very guy who's shoulder you cry on when you've just lost a job or had advances from a guy you thought you wanted til you had them. A guy you'd lost complete contact with but proved to be a most important part of your past. Who better to fall in love with than the man you know better than any other. I also loved how the author gave you brief glimpses into the possible future paths Lila would take depending on who she touched. This was such a great story that it made me want to Google Ceri Herbert for other books she has written to run out and purchase!! I highly recommend you do the same, run out and grab this great read with both hands @!@ ~ Krista Ames, Author

Review: Christmas Treats 2: Santa's Nice List

Christmas Treats 2: Santa's Nice List

Still Moments Publishing Christmas Anthology 2011

What a great anthology written by three great authors.  I love Romance, especially Romance set at Christmas time and this anthology didn't disappoint in any way.

The first story, Mistletoe Accomplished by Maggie Devine was definitely “devine”!  This story had me hooked right away.  Curtis and Lauren fought so well from the beginning it was bound to be a perfect match but there was still the restaurant chef conflict that kept me as a reader guessing how things would turn out. Could he risk her finding out it was him that ruined her career?  Could she really hate him for what he had unintentionally done to her?  Who knew there was love to be found after being run off the road and then a mistletoe kiss to seal the deal.  Ms. Devine made her characters genuine and believable and this is a very well written story!  Love it!

In the second story Redford Falls #1:  Chocolate Kisses by Darlene Fredette, it couldn't have been any more sweet!  Candy runs the family candy store and has promised a Santa appearance with no Santa?  And then there's the small thing of needing a  financial miracle to keep that business running.  Perfect time for the love of her life to re-appear without warning.  I love this story because it is totally believable, starting with a wedding the groom doesn't remember being in to being roped in to playing Santa.  Or Candy still being in love with him and she never told anyone about him or that they were still married?  Jackson Frost and Candace Cane stole my heart and I love how he used the excuse of still being her husband to be able to help her keep her businesses.  Great great job Ms. Fredette, and I'll say it again, I love this story and I am excitedly looking forward to Redford Falls #2 coming December 2012.

Now for the third story, The Santa Drag by Liv Rancourt.  The author did an awesome job with bringing these characters to life and what a totally original idea.  Who would ever think, a woman in a Santa suit?  Every mall or sidewalk Santa I’ve ever seen has always been a man but who ever said a woman can't do anything a man can do.  This was truly a wonderfully written story!  I've always been a sucker for a happy ending and there's no better way than finding your first true love.  Mackenzie and Joe found each other again much by accident and a little embarrassment but made it work after all!  Kudos Liv Rancourt, I loved it !!

Please don't ask me to pick my favorite out of these three short stories because I just can't do it.  They were all a bit different but great each in their own way!  I would highly recommend this Christmas anthology even on the hottest day in the middle of summer !!  ~ Krista Ames, Author
